Our history

When Lionel Plante Sr. moved to Peaks Island in 1962, he soon discovered he wasn’t cut out for the quiet island life he had imagined. Recognizing a need within the island community, he opened a laundromat — and from that modest beginning sowed the seeds for what is now one of the oldest continuously operating businesses on the islands. Guided by a spirit of service and endlessly inventive, Lionel and his family kept answering the community’s needs. They launched a barging service, then fuel delivery and a gas station, a marina, an excavation business, and the first dedicated water taxi.
